Rev Pat GlasgowFor over sixty years the West Indies School of Theology (WIST) has been training Christian leaders for the church of our Lord Jesus Christ. This has been a rewarding experience, as we behold the many graduates who are making outstanding contributions in the Christian arena and the world in general. WIST offers sound biblical training so that our clients may acquire theoretical and experiential knowledge, as well as skills to equip them for the spiritual challenges of our time. Our campus can boast of a serene atmosphere that encourages study along with a highly qualified team of faculty and staff that will assist in your personal and intellectual development.  We believe that Christian ministers must be holistic to adequately serve their constituents. Hence our goal is that at the end of your sojourn with us, you will be academically equipped, spiritually sensitive, and socially relevant. May God guide you as you seek to accomplish His will in your life! Blessings!

History of WIST

WIST BuildingIn 1946, missionaries of the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada founded the West Indies School of Theology. This school was intended to provide training for people who became pastors in the West Indies District of the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada. As the vision expanded and the student body increased, classes were removed from the Woodbrook Pentecostal Chapel, its birthplace to the El Dorado Pentecostal church.

In 1954, the six and one third (6?) acre campus at Fourth Bridge, Maracas Valley, was purchased, and from that time has been the home of the school. Since its founding, the scope of the school has gone beyond training for Pastoral Ministry and now includes training for Evangelism, Christian Education, leadership in para-church organizations and general leadership for the church.

The student population has significantly increased from six (6) in 1946 to an average of 130 over the past five years. Approximately 85% of our students come from member churches of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the West Indies. The remaining 15% comprise representatives from other Evangelical church groups.

Students are drawn mainly from the English speaking Caribbean countries. The leadership had completely changed from Canadian missionaries to Caribbean nationals. The first Caribbean national President was appointed in 1970. Since that date, all Presidents have been W.I.S.T graduates.

Graduates of our school fill 98% of the pulpits of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the West Indies. Other graduates are presently ministering in England, Canada, United States, Kenya, Zambia, Ghana, Venezuela, Brazil and the majority of the English speaking Caribbean islands.
