A Profile of Leadership
Born at Bethel, Tobago in 1944, to Fitzroy Mc Carthy Baird and Edwina ‘Granny Stella’ Baird, Apostle Bertril Baird became a christian in 1961 at age 17. His first mentor and pastor in ministry, and lifelong friend, was the late Bishop Turnel Nelson. In 1963 he entered the West Indies School of Theology (WIST), from which he graduated three years later with a Diploma in Theology with Honours. At WIST he met his wife Jacqueline, and they were married in 1967.
Apostle Baird devoted his life to social and Christian service. His holistic vision encompassed the world in spreading the gospel, promoting health and healing, alleviating poverty, reducing crime and injustice, and transforming societies through restored families.
Apostle Baird founded Faith Revival Ministries World Outreach Inc., Faith Revival Ministries Advanced School of Christian Ministry, and the Logos Research, Counselling and Educational Institute; and was a founding member of the executive council board of Trustees of the International Third World Leaders Association (ITWLA). Some of his contributions included membership of a Cabinet-appointed committee on crime in T&T; and membership of the Mediation Committee that drafted the Bill that culminated in the Mediation Act of 2004, which facilitates the functioning of the Trinidad & Tobago Family Court. Apostle Baird was the accredited representative of the Word of Life Ministries, Jamaica, to the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, New York, and was its special envoy to the Eastern Caribbean States. In August 2011 Apostle Baird celebrated 50 years in ministry, and was promoted to glory in May 2014. Apostle Bertril Baird’s passion and message for transforming nations live on in the hearts of those whose lives he influenced.
Rev. Dr. Irvin Evarros Smith began his service to the Lord more than 50 years ago. He’s had a heart for kingdom building, and a strong belief in continuously educating himself, from a Certificate in Salesmanship from Bennett College in England in 1959, to a PhD.(Hons.) from The Ministerial Training Institute of California in 1989, to a Certificate in Computer Literacy from YTEPP in 1999. His studying to show himself approved, and yielding himself to be used of God, have made him an effective minister and leader. Over the course of five decades plus he’s been a singer, church founder, pastor, lecturer, superintendent, author, successful businessman, chairman and member of boards and committees, worked as a missionary and has been a faithful husband to Gwendolyn, biological father of three and spiritual father to many many others.
Subsequent to graduating from WIST in 1964, he pursued and obtained certificates in Communication Arts and Television Production in the 1970’s at UWI and in the USA. His involvement in media preceded this though, as he was a member of the Revival Time Assembly’s Bulletin Committee and Radio Church Choir in the late 50’s and early 60’s. In 1968 he established a radio programme in Barbados where he ministered from 1964 to 1975. Rev. Smith worked as a television host for Outreach Ministries International from 1970-1978 and remains a Director of that ministry. He’s been a member of the Christian Broadcasters Forum for over 17 years, and was an associate for over 12 years in Noel/Smith Productions, a media company. Currently he is Director of Studio Jeronies. He served as Senior Minister of Bethel World Outreach Ministries for over 37+ years.
