Library

WELCOME

It is a tremendous honour to extend to you a warm welcome to the Nicholson Library. The WIST Library wants to assist you in achieving success in your academic pursuits and in making effective use of the knowledge you have gained. We will assist you in locating, selecting, and acquiring the information you require from what might sometimes appear to be quite overwhelming. There are a variety of papers published every day, which result in over one million publications each year being distributed throughout various databases. New books also add to the vast collection of resources every single year. The current information that we are already faced with can be overwhelming, and it will only become worse as technology continues to advance. Information that is relevant to your area of study or personal development depends on this knowledge-based society that we live in today.  This is especially true for those of us who are engaged in the process of developing our expertise in areas such as church ministry, teaching, counselling as well as career development.

Although the biggest of libraries cannot house all publications, the staff at the Nicholson Library will work towards keeping you up to date with the relevant resources needed for your journey at WIST. We encourage you to make use of the library as a venue for information gathering, communication, learning as well as leisure reading. You are welcomed to make use of our facilities. The library’s collection consists of approximately 22,000 volumes and this includes books, newspapers, magazines, indexes, and a small collection of videos, recordings, archival collections, and computer resources.

The mission of the library is to provide satisfactory information services as well as scholarly resources that meet the needs of the school’s community as well as our extended users. The staff strives to progressively improve the library facility as well as the library collection. In a society where information is power, we are surrounded by many different avenues to access the information we need such as the internet, websites, blogs, and podcasts to name a few. How to begin looking for information? How dependable is the information found? Is the source an authority in the field? These questions point to the crucial role of the library. The library staff are here to guide you as you learn the art of seeking, assessing, and using information. We are not just here to fulfil your classroom assignments, but also to develop the skills you will need to be a wise, informed user for a lifetime.

Welcome to the journey!

Kind regards,

Librarian
